Final Destination (Analysis (3))

As a figure of speech, repetition used in our book. One of them is the song. The song is a major point that kept the plot, the characters, the past and the present together. Apart from that, one word is sometimes used three times or more to make us feel what the characters feel. That helped actually. In the desert I felt the despair (empty canteen) and on the mountain the hope (snow memory). With his words Louis Sachar made us live in the world he created.

 

Of course there are things that I didn’t like in the author’s style. There were too many coincidences in the book which can not occur in the real world. That might be understandable considering that it is a children’s book, but I had to say it. The book was like a chain reaction of coincidences.

That’s all fellows. I tried to analyse the style Louis Sachar used. Hope you like it! (Especially you Mr. Siever)

Final Destination (Analysis (2))

A considerable part of the book is flashbacks. For me flashback is a component which makes a book better and more interesting. It shows us that even though the plot is happening at present, it is related with the past, too. Also if the past didn’t happened the way it happened, the story wouldn’t have happened now (oh, too many “happen”s). Especially the flashbacks of “Holes” turned it from a classic children’s book to a novel which we can enjoy very much. In particular the story of the curse was nice. The curse began when Elya didn’t carry Madame Zeroni, ended when Stanley carried Zero.

As I mentioned it before, Zero is my favourite character. Some like Stanley or X-Rayor even Warden. Besides all of them, there are characters that saved “the day”, even they died hundred years ago. Without Sam they couldn’t find the onions and might have bitten by lizards. Without Kate Barlow Zero and Stanley wouldn’t get rich and so on. They are the secret heros of the book. Louis Sachar used the secret heros so well, that at some points we thought what happened, smiled unwittingly and said “I see what you did there.”

Wow, our journey has come to an end. I finished the book. Actually I am not sad at all. In the end of this entry, I will have finished my assignment. Truth be told, writing this was more interesting and enjoyable than I expected. Before my first entry, I thought it won’t come to an end and it will make my holiday suck. Then I realized I like writing entries actually. Maybe I will go on with this blog, who knows? :D

So after a short introduction part, it is time to analyse! Above all, I liked the book very much. I loved it. For a children’s book, it is quite complicated and made the readers think. The plot is very well structured. We see the proficiency of Louis Sachar in his style.

Sunglasses and cowboy hat… Just in the beginning we see the cliches of a state. Yes, Texas! As I said just in the beginning we understand the environment Louis Sachar has established. When we think about Texas, a dry area comes to our minds, doesn’t it? Here is where Camp Gren Lake located. Even in the first pages we can predict what type of problems this are can cause.

The Character of Nothing (!) (Character Analysis (2))

Nevertheless he is extraordinary in maths considering his other skills.

“What about it, Zero?” asked Mr. Pendanski. “What do you want to do?”

“I like to dig holes.”

He can very quickly calculate numbers off the cuff. That is quite interesting for me. Without being tranied, doing such good things in math is an uncommen talent. Thanks to this skill, the symbol of naivenness becomes the symbol of smartness, too. See, that’s why I like Zero.

His ability in math reminded me an unforgettable character of an unforgettable movie. Yes, Raymond Babbitt a.k.a. Rain Man. Fort the ones who didn’t watch the film (Shame on you!), he is an autistic man who is extremely good at maths. Dustin Hoffman was Raymond. He is a remarkable character who can pass through and make you cry. Here is a part of the film in which Raymond shows his talent.

We started with Zero and finished with Dustin Hoffman. Pretty cool, ha?? :D I would prefer talking about Rain Man but I still must say that Zero is a bold teenager, too. Running away from the camp, especially from Camp Gren Lake, isn’t something that everybody can do.

40 pages left. Stanley and Zero are in the middle of the desert. I can’t wait to learn what is going to be next. So computer out, book in.

The Character of Nothing(!) (Character Analysis (1))

Two topics are done, two to go. As I told you before, this entry will be the character analysis of Zero.

 

Although most of the characters think that Zero is nobody and stupid, he is certainly my favourite character of the book. In fact Louis Sachar made the readers think that way, I think. Other characters humiliate him and that causes us to feel sympathy toward him.

He is a tiny boy with curly hair. Even he is tiny he is one of the fastest diggers in the D Tent.Also and real name is Hector Zeroni. This is another reason of my interest into this character: his family history is coincidental tied with the story of Stanley’s. I’m almost sure that at the end both Stanley and Zero will learn what had happened in the past. That will make them closer.

In spite of other people’s thoughts, he is smart. Very smart, indeed. His ignorance is a consequence of his miserable life circumstances. I can say that without knowing what actually happened in his childhood ( I didn’t finish the book), because he didn’t know reading and writing so far. Thanks to Stanley he began to learn these.

Let's have some fun!

Hi there!

I must say I really liked writing a blog. However I'm not in that mood today :D. So I decided to share some videos about "Holes". My new entry will be about the character analysis of Zero, my favourite character. 

That video is almost the middle part of the adapdated movie. Maybe I haven't mentioned before, but there is a movie about that book. In this part we can easily understand which character is which. The famous actor Shia LaBeouf was Stanley.

I saw this picture today. It immediately reminded me our book :D. Aren't they similar? Hugh Laurie as Stanley Yealnats... It would be absolutely unique.

PS: House M.D. is my favourite TV show.

If I were Louis Sachar... (Prediction (2))

The first part of the enrty was about predictions about the characters. Let’s look at the plot now. Every children’s book has a happy end. That’s why I think that Stanley will leave the Camp in the end. They will find the loot or a letter with “No loot. Gotcha! Kisses from Kate” The people around Stanley will believe that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, even Clyde Livingston. He might give the sneakers to Stanley as a gift. Apropos Stanley’s father will succeed in his experiment. 

Zero will be a great mathematician and we will learn the relationship between Yelnats and Zeroni families. I can’t predict anything about the other boys but perhaps Mr. Sir and The Walden will get married.

These were my thoughts. 80 pages left. I hope Louis Sachar had thought like me. We will see!
